Independent catering that likes to get personal
Our homegrown business works on the basis that small is beautiful, but that doesn’t mean we can’t give the big companies a run for their money. Thanks to our solid partnerships with highly experienced local professionals, from chefs, beautifully mannered front of house staff and competent behind the scenes management, you can expect a personal service that still delivers on every level.
Never organised independent catering of an event before? Fear not, because we can help you to plan your event from start to finish. From menu selections to site visitations, we will be right by your side to help with every aspect. We work to your budget, and provide flexible, tailor made menu solutions with no hidden surprises.
We have a reputation for being creative and thinking outside the box, so to start planning your unique and memorable catering experience, get in touch today.
We have recently moved to a new catering unit in Colyton, Devon which is where all the food preparation happens in the days leading up to an event. We have an upstairs office where new enquiries are handled and the main kitchen downstairs. The premises are fully inspected and we have been awarded a 5 ‘scores on the doors rating’ (very good) by East Devon District Council. Tastings are also held at the unit which gives clients a chance to meet with us, try some food and see where it all happens.
About the owner-James Petherbridge
“I trained as a chef from the age of 18 and worked within the Lyme Bay area in the hospitality trade until the age of 26. About this time I thought I’d better knuckle down and get a ‘sensible’ job so decided on quite a big career change and joined the Devon and Cornwall constabulary as a police officer. However, things didn’t go quite to plan and following an injury and back operation I decided cooking seemed far more sensible (and safe) and so Lyme Bay Field Kitchen was formed in late 2010 . The business has gone from strength to strength and in late 2012 branched out into wedding catering which has become extremely popular.”

“My aim is to offer exciting food with plenty of theatre and a lot of attention to detail. I want my clients to feel a personal level of service and trust that their ideas will not only be met but exceeded on the day.
The food whenever possible is sourced locally, from butchers, greengrocers and fishmongers and by using fairly traded ingredients. I like to offer a selection of cooking styles in additional to the traditional plated wedding fair- from evening wood fired pizzas, delicious large paellas cooked in front of your guests, to summer BBQ’s served up family style on rustic wooden boards.
We bring a lot of personally selected tableware to events which really sets off the food and creates a unique table setting of its own, so take a look at some of the dishes on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/lymebayfieldkitchen-and then of course please ‘Like It!’.
The business is now well established and with a close knit team of staff to assist at events, I’m delighted to say Lyme Bay Field Kitchen is really taking off! I’m always on hand to discuss bookings so please send me an email or pick up the phone and I’ll be happy to have a chat!”- James
